Synopsis
ZOMBIE LAND SAGA is a 2018 comedy anime with 12 episodes. It was made by MAPPA and is an original story. It is set in Saga Prefecture, a quiet and often overlooked area on the island of Kyushu in Japan. The show mixes zombie horror jokes with the world of pop idols.
Sakura Minamoto is a high school girl who dreams of becoming an idol. One morning, as she steps out of her house, she is hit by a truck and killed. Ten years later, she wakes up in an old mansion. She is now a zombie, and she has lost most of her memories.
Sakura is not alone. The mansion is full of other zombie girls. Each one was a famous or legendary figure from a different time in history, such as a tough biker gang leader, a top idol from the 2000s and a star from the 1980s. Most of them cannot think clearly at first.
Then Kotaro Tatsumi appears. He is a loud and pushy man who wears sunglasses and seems to know everything about them. He tells the girls that they will form an idol group and save Saga. The girls must hide that they are zombies, perform in front of real crowds and learn to work as a team.
The group starts with almost no fans and many problems. The show follows the girls as they try to succeed as idols, while slowly learning about each other's pasts.
