Synopsis
BLEND-S is a 2017 comedy anime with 12 episodes. It was made by A-1 Pictures and is based on the four-panel comic by Miyuki Nakayama. It is set in a small cafe in modern Japan. The show is a light workplace comedy with short, quick jokes.
Maika Sakuranomiya is a kind and cheerful high school girl. She wants a part-time job to save money for a trip abroad. But she has a problem. Her eyes look sharp and cold, and when she smiles, people think she is plotting something. Because of this, she fails every job interview.
Then she meets Dino, the young Italian manager of a cafe called Stile. Dino thinks Maika is very cute and hires her on the spot. At Stile, each waitress acts out a special character type for the customers. Because of her scary look, Maika is given the role of a sadist who treats customers coldly. She is terrible at being mean on purpose, but her natural looks make customers love it.
Maika works with other girls who also play roles. Kaho Hinata plays a girl who acts cold but is sweet inside. Mafuyu Hoshikawa plays a cute little sister, even though she is older than she looks. Kouyou Akizuki cooks in the kitchen, and Miu Amano is an adult who writes comics.
Dino has a huge crush on Maika, but he can never tell her. The show follows the staff as they work, joke and get into silly trouble at the cafe.
