Synopsis
Blue Period is a 2021 drama anime with 12 episodes. It was made by Seven Arcs and is based on the manga by Tsubasa Yamaguchi. It is set in modern Tokyo and follows the world of art students and art school exams.
Yatora Yaguchi is a popular high school student. He gets good grades, has lots of friends and knows how to fit in. On weekends, he stays out late with his friends. But deep down, he feels empty. He does not know what he really wants to do with his life.
One day, Yatora sees a large painting in the school art room, and it moves him. For an art class task, he paints the view of Shibuya early in the morning, using blue colors to show how the city feels to him. When other people look at his painting, they understand what he meant. For the first time, Yatora feels truly seen.
Yatora decides to aim for Tokyo University of the Arts, one of the hardest art schools in Japan to get into. He has almost no experience, so he must work very hard to catch up. He joins the art club and later an art prep school. There, he meets classmates like Ryuji Ayukawa, who is searching for their own place in the world, and skilled rivals who push him forward.
The show is a thoughtful story about passion, hard work and finding your own way to express yourself.
