Synopsis
Sound! Euphonium is a 2015 music drama anime, and this first season has 13 episodes. It was made by Kyoto Animation and is based on the novel series by Ayano Takeda. It is set at Kitauji High School in Uji, a town near Kyoto. The show follows the daily life of a high school concert band.
Kumiko Oumae is a first-year student who has played the euphonium, a small brass instrument, since elementary school. At first, she is not sure she wants to keep playing in high school. In the end, she joins the concert band with her new friends Hazuki and Sapphire, who is called Midori.
The Kitauji band used to be strong, but in recent years it has been weak and not very serious. This year, a new band teacher named Noboru Taki arrives. He is polite and calm, but very strict. He asks the students to choose their goal for the year. They vote to aim for the national competition. Taki then pushes them harder than they ever expected.
Kumiko also meets Reina Kousaka again. Reina is a talented trumpet player from Kumiko's middle school. After a contest in middle school, Kumiko said something careless to Reina, and she has felt awkward about it ever since.
As the band works toward the summer contest, tensions grow between members. The show is a realistic story about hard work, music and the feelings that come with wanting to be the best.
