Synopsis
A Place Further Than the Universe is a 2018 adventure drama anime with 13 episodes. It was made by Madhouse and is an original story directed by Atsuko Ishizuka. It starts in a small town in Japan and later moves to the far south of the world. It is a warm, emotional story about friendship and growing up.
Mari Tamaki, called Kimari, is a second-year high school student. She always says she wants to do something special with her youth, but she never actually does it. She is afraid to leave her comfort zone.
One day, Kimari finds an envelope with one million yen inside. It belongs to Shirase Kobuchizawa, a quiet girl from her school. Shirase has been saving money for a long time because she wants to go to Antarctica. Her mother, a researcher, went missing there three years ago. Other students laugh at Shirase's dream, but she does not give up.
Kimari is moved by Shirase's courage and decides to go with her. They soon meet Hinata Miyake, a cheerful girl who works at a convenience store and does not go to school. Later, they are joined by Yuzuki Shiraishi, a young actress who has never had real friends.
Together, the four girls try to find a way onto a civilian expedition to Antarctica. The show follows them as they train, face doubts and learn what it means to take a big step forward.
