Synopsis
A Certain Magical Index is a 2008 science fantasy action anime with 24 episodes. It was made by J.C.Staff and is based on the light novel series by Kazuma Kamachi. It is set in Academy City, a large city near Tokyo where most people are students. The city uses science to give students special mental powers, and these students are called espers.
Toma Kamijo is a high school student in Academy City. On paper, he is a Level 0, the lowest rank, with no power at all. But his right hand has a strange ability called Imagine Breaker. With a single touch, it can cancel any supernatural power. Toma also has very bad luck, and something always seems to go wrong for him.
One summer morning, Toma finds a young girl hanging over the railing of his balcony. She wears a white nun's outfit and says her name is Index. She tells him that she has memorized 103,000 magic books, and that magicians are after her.
Toma does not believe in magic at first. Academy City is a world of science. But soon a dangerous magician appears, and Toma learns that magic is real. He decides to protect Index, even though he has no reason to be involved.
Toma also keeps running into Mikoto Misaka, a powerful esper girl who can control electricity. The show mixes action with comedy as the worlds of science and magic begin to meet.
