Synopsis
A Certain Scientific Railgun is a 2009 science fiction action anime with 24 episodes. It was made by J.C.Staff and is based on the manga by Motoi Fuyukawa, created by Kazuma Kamachi. It is a spin-off of A Certain Magical Index. It is set in Academy City, a large city where most people are students who have special mental powers, called espers.
Mikoto Misaka is a middle school student at Tokiwadai, a school for rich and elite girls. She is one of only seven Level 5 espers, the highest rank in the city. She can control electricity, and her most famous move is shooting coins at great speed. This is why people call her the Railgun.
Mikoto shares a room with Kuroko Shirai, a younger student who can teleport. Kuroko is part of Judgment, a group of students who help keep order in the city. Kuroko adores Mikoto, a little too much. Mikoto also becomes friends with Kazari Uiharu, a sweet girl who is great with computers, and Ruiko Saten, a cheerful girl who has no powers.
The four girls spend their days together, shopping and hanging out. But Academy City is not always peaceful. Soon, a mysterious tool called the Level Upper starts to spread. It is said to raise a person's power, but something strange happens to those who use it.
The show mixes everyday school life and friendship with action and science fiction mysteries.
