Synopsis
Another is a 2012 horror mystery anime with 12 episodes. It was made by the studio P.A. Works and is based on the novel by Yukito Ayatsuji. It is set in the small town of Yomiyama, Japan, in the spring of 1998.
Koichi Sakakibara is a 15 year old boy who moves from Tokyo to Yomiyama. Just before school starts, he gets sick and spends some time in the hospital. When he finally joins Class 3-3 at Yomiyama North Middle School, he is a few weeks late.
His new classmates seem friendly, but they also seem nervous. Some of them ask him odd questions about whether he has ever been to Yomiyama before.
Koichi soon notices a quiet girl named Mei Misaki. She wears an eyepatch over one eye and often sits alone. Koichi first met her in the hospital, where he saw her carrying a doll to the basement. The strange thing is that nobody in class ever talks to her or looks at her. Even the teacher acts as if she is not there. When Koichi tries to speak with Mei, his classmates get upset and will not tell him why.
Mei warns Koichi to stay away from her. He also hears stories about a student from the same class who died many years ago. Koichi senses that his class is hiding a secret. The series follows Koichi as he tries to learn the truth, while dark events start to happen around Class 3-3.
