Synopsis
Cowboy Bebop is a 1998 science fiction anime with 26 episodes, which the show calls sessions. It is an original story made by the studio Sunrise and directed by Shinichiro Watanabe. It is set in the year 2071, when people live on planets and moons across the solar system.
Decades ago, an accident with a new space travel gate badly damaged the Moon and made Earth hard to live on. Most people moved away to places like Mars and Venus. With so much space to cover, the police cannot catch every criminal. So the government pays bounty hunters, called cowboys, to catch them.
Spike Spiegel is a cool and relaxed bounty hunter who is very good at martial arts. Jet Black is his partner. He is a former police officer with a metal arm, and he owns their old fishing ship, the Bebop. They rarely have enough money, because their jobs often go wrong.
In the first sessions, Spike and Jet chase a dealer of a dangerous drug on a desert colony. Then they go after a thief with a very smart dog, and they end up keeping the dog, a Welsh corgi named Ein. They also meet Faye Valentine, a gambler with big debts who does not trust anyone.
Most episodes tell a single story, with a mix of action, comedy and quiet moments. The show also has a famous jazz and blues soundtrack by Yoko Kanno. Over time, the crew's own pasts start to catch up with them.
