Synopsis
Trigun is a 1998 science fiction western anime with 26 episodes. It was made by Madhouse and is based on the manga by Yasuhiro Nightow. It is set on Gunsmoke, a desert planet with twin suns, where people live in small towns and fight to survive. It mixes cowboy action with space science fiction.
Vash the Stampede is the most wanted man on the planet. He has a bounty of 60 billion double dollars on his head. People call him the Humanoid Typhoon, because disaster seems to follow him wherever he goes. Stories say he destroyed an entire city.
But when people meet Vash, he is not what they expect. He is a tall, goofy man in a red coat who loves donuts and acts like a fool. He also hates killing and will do anything to avoid it, even though he is an amazing shot with his silver revolver.
Meryl Stryfe and Milly Thompson are two insurance agents from the Bernardelli Insurance Society. Their job is to follow Vash and reduce the damage he causes, so their company does not have to pay so much. At first, they cannot believe this silly man is really the famous outlaw.
The early episodes are mostly light and funny, with bounty hunters and gangs chasing Vash from town to town. Slowly, the show hints at his past and becomes more serious. It is about peace, violence and the choice not to kill.
