Synopsis
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is a 2022 science fiction action anime with 10 episodes. It was made by Studio Trigger for Netflix and is set in the world of the video game Cyberpunk 2077 by CD Projekt Red. The story takes place in Night City, a huge and violent city in the future.
In Night City, big companies have more power than the government. People replace parts of their bodies with machines, called cyberware, to become faster or stronger. But too much cyberware can make a person lose their mind.
David Martinez is a teenage boy from a poor family. His mother works very hard so he can attend Arasaka Academy, a school for rich kids. David does not fit in there, and other students look down on him. Then a sudden tragedy turns his life upside down, and he is left on his own.
David finds a Sandevistan, a piece of military cyberware that lets the user move at super speed. He has it installed in his body. Most people could not handle it, but David can.
Soon he meets Lucy, a skilled netrunner who can hack into other people's minds and systems. She dreams of going to the Moon. Through her, David meets a crew of edgerunners, criminals who take dangerous jobs for money. The crew is led by a big man named Maine.
The series follows David as he joins the crew and tries to survive in a city that uses people up.
