Synopsis
Ghost in the Shell is a 1995 science fiction film directed by Mamoru Oshii. It was made by Production I.G and is based on the manga by Masamune Shirow. It is set in the year 2029, in a crowded Asian city where computers and the human body have become connected. It has violence and some nudity, so it is best for adult viewers.

In this world, many people have cyberbrains, which connect their minds directly to computer networks. Some people have replaced most of their body with machine parts. The line between human and machine is very thin.

Major Motoko Kusanagi is a full cyborg. Almost her whole body is artificial, except for her brain and a part of her spinal cord. She leads an attack team in Section 9, a secret government unit that fights cyber crime and terrorism. Her team includes Batou, a large cyborg soldier, and Togusa, a detective who is almost fully human. Their chief is Daisuke Aramaki.

Section 9 is hunting a mysterious hacker known as the Puppet Master. This hacker can break into people's cyberbrains, take control of them and plant false memories in their minds. No one knows who or what the Puppet Master really is.

As the case goes deeper, Kusanagi starts to question her own self. She wonders if she is still human, or just a machine that thinks it is one. The film is a slow, thoughtful story mixed with action scenes.
