Synopsis
Akudama Drive is a 2020 cyberpunk action anime with 12 episodes. It was made by Studio Pierrot and is an original story created by Kazutaka Kodaka and Too Kyo. It is set in a future version of the Kansai region of Japan, a bright city full of neon lights. The show is very violent and bloody, so it is only for adult viewers.
Years ago, Kansai lost a war to Kanto, and now it lives under Kanto's control. Kansai is full of crime. The most dangerous criminals are called Akudama. They are feared, and they can face terrible punishments if they are caught.
An ordinary young woman is walking through the city when she pays a small debt for a stranger. After this, she is pulled into a strange chain of events. She is mistaken for an Akudama, and she does not correct the mistake. She calls herself Swindler.
A mysterious black cat robot offers a huge reward to a group of Akudama. Their job is to break a prisoner out before he is executed. The team includes Courier, a calm man who delivers anything, Brawler, who loves to fight, Hacker, Doctor and Cutthroat, a smiling serial killer. Swindler joins them, even though she has no real skills.
Soon, the police send their Executioners after the group. The show mixes stylish action with a fast, dark story, as each character is pulled into a much bigger plan.
