Synopsis
Danganronpa: The Animation is a 2013 mystery thriller anime with 13 episodes. It was made by the studio Lerche and is based on the video game Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc by Spike Chunsoft. It is set at Hope's Peak Academy, an elite high school in Japan. The show has violence and death as part of its mystery plot.
Hope's Peak Academy only accepts students who are the very best in their field. Each student has an "Ultimate" title, such as the Ultimate Baseball Star or the Ultimate Pop Sensation. Makoto Naegi is a normal boy who was chosen by lottery, so he is the Ultimate Lucky Student.
On his first day, Makoto walks into the school and suddenly passes out. When he wakes up, he is inside a classroom with metal plates over the windows. He meets 14 other new students, who are just as confused as he is.
A strange robot bear named Monokuma appears and calls himself the headmaster. He tells them that they are now trapped in the school forever. There is only one way to leave. A student must kill another student and not get caught. After each murder, all the students hold a class trial to find the killer. If they find the right person, only the killer is punished. If they choose wrong, everyone else is punished, and the killer goes free.
The series follows Makoto as he tries to survive, find the truth behind each case and learn why they were locked inside.
