Tomodachi Game is a 2022 psychological thriller anime with 12 episodes. It was made by the studio Okuruto Noboru and is based on the manga by Yuki Sato and Mikoto Yamaguchi. It is set in modern Japan. The show has tense scenes, cruel mind games and some violence, so it is best for older teens and adults.
Yuichi Katagiri is a high school student who believes that friends matter more than money. His late father taught him this, and he lives by it. He has four close friends. Shiho is a kind and pretty girl. Tenji is smart and popular. Makoto is quiet, and Yutori is shy.
One day, the money their class saved for a school trip goes missing. Yuichi and Shiho were in charge of it, so people start to suspect them. Soon after, all five friends are knocked out and taken to a strange place.
There, a cute mascot tells them they are now players in the Tomodachi Game, which means Friend Game. One of them owes 20 million yen, and they must work together to pay off the debt. The games test how much they trust each other. If everyone trusts each other, no one gets hurt. But the organizers say one of the five is a traitor who signed them up.
As the games go on, secrets start to come out, and doubt spreads through the group. The show follows Yuichi as he tries to protect his friends and find out the truth.
