Synopsis
BLUE LOCK is a 2022 sports anime about soccer, and this first season has 24 episodes. It was made by the studio Eight Bit and is based on the manga by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Yusuke Nomura. It is set in modern Japan.
In 2018, Japan's national soccer team lost in the World Cup. The Japan Football Union wants to change that. They hire a strange coach named Jinpachi Ego. Ego believes Japan keeps losing because it has no true striker, a player who wants to score goals more than anything else. He thinks Japanese players are too focused on teamwork.
Ego starts a project called Blue Lock. He brings 300 of the best young forwards in Japan to a huge training facility. They must compete against each other in a series of tests and matches. Only one of them will become the striker for Japan's national team. The rest will never be allowed to play for Japan again.
Yoichi Isagi is a second year high school forward. In an important match, he chose to pass the ball to a teammate instead of shooting. His team lost, and he still wonders if he made the right choice. When he gets an invitation to Blue Lock, he decides to go.
Isagi is put in Team Z, the lowest ranked group. There he meets other players with very different styles, like Meguru Bachira. The season follows Isagi as he learns to think like a striker and fights to survive each round of Blue Lock.
