Synopsis
Food Wars! is a 2015 cooking comedy anime, and this first season has 24 episodes. It was made by the studio J.C.Staff and is based on the manga by Yuto Tsukuda and Shun Saeki. The story is set in Japan, mostly at a famous cooking school.
Soma Yukihira is a young cook who works at his family's small diner in a shopping street in Tokyo. His father, Joichiro, is the head chef. Soma has been cooking with him since he was a child. His goal is to become a better cook than his father one day and take over the diner.
Then his father suddenly closes the diner to work abroad. He sends Soma to Totsuki Culinary Academy, one of the best cooking schools in the world. At Totsuki, the competition is very hard. Only about one in ten students ever graduate.
At his entrance test, Soma meets Erina Nakiri, the granddaughter of the school's director. She has a perfect sense of taste, which people call the God Tongue. She looks down on his simple diner food. At the opening ceremony, Soma says he plans to become the top student, which makes the whole class angry.
Students at Totsuki settle their problems with cooking duels called Shokugeki. Soma moves into Polar Star Dormitory, where he meets other students with their own cooking styles. The series follows Soma as he takes on hard challenges, faces strong rivals and grows as a chef.
