Synopsis
Free! -Iwatobi Swim Club- is a 2013 sports drama anime with 12 episodes. It was made by Kyoto Animation and is based on the light novel High Speed! by Koji Oji. It is set in Iwatobi, a quiet seaside town in Japan. The show is about swimming, friendship and the bonds between a group of boys.
Haruka Nanase is a calm high school student who loves water more than anything. He only swims freestyle, and he jumps into water whenever he can. As children, Haruka and his friends Makoto Tachibana, Nagisa Hazuki and Rin Matsuoka won a relay race together. After that, Rin moved to Australia to train, and the group drifted apart.
Years later, Rin comes back to Japan. He is now a strong swimmer at Samezuka Academy, a school with a top swim team. He is bitter and wants to beat Haruka in a race to prove he is the best.
Seeing Rin again makes Haruka want to swim for real. Makoto and Nagisa decide to start a swim club at Iwatobi High School, but first they need a pool that works and one more member. They try to recruit Rei Ryugazaki, a smart boy who loves logic and beauty but does not know how to swim.
The season follows the Iwatobi team as they train, enter tournaments and try to repair their old friendship with Rin.
