Yuri!!! on ICE is a 2016 sports drama anime about figure skating with 12 episodes. It is an original story made by the studio MAPPA, directed by Sayo Yamamoto and written by Mitsurou Kubo. It is set in Japan, Russia and other countries around the world.
Yuri Katsuki is a 23 year old figure skater from Japan. He is talented, but he gets very nervous in competitions. At the Grand Prix Final, he makes many mistakes and finishes in last place. Feeling like a failure, he goes back to his hometown of Hasetsu, a small seaside town in Kyushu, and is not sure if he will skate again.
Yuri's idol is Victor Nikiforov, a famous Russian skater who has won the world championship five times in a row. One day, Yuri skates a copy of one of Victor's programs at his home rink. Some young fans secretly film it, and the video goes viral online.
Soon after, Victor himself shows up in Hasetsu. To Yuri's shock, Victor says he will take a break from skating and become Yuri's coach.
But Yuri is not the only one who wants Victor's help. Yuri Plisetsky, a talented and fiery 15 year old Russian skater, also follows Victor to Japan. The two Yuris must compete to prove themselves. The series follows Yuri Katsuki and Victor as they train together, grow close and aim for the Grand Prix Final.
