Synopsis
Howl's Moving Castle is a 2004 fantasy anime film written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki at Studio Ghibli. It runs for about two hours and is based on the novel by Diana Wynne Jones. It is set in a European style kingdom with magic, steam trains and flying war machines.

Sophie Hatter is an 18 year old girl who works in her late father's hat shop. She is quiet and shy. Her country is about to go to war with its neighbor, and soldiers fill the streets.

One day, Sophie meets a handsome young wizard named Howl, who saves her from some soldiers. People in town say Howl steals the hearts of pretty girls. That night, the Witch of the Waste comes into the shop. She is angry, and she puts a curse on Sophie. Sophie wakes up as an old woman of about 90. The curse also stops her from telling anyone about it.

Sophie leaves home and walks into the hills. There she finds Howl's castle, a huge messy building that walks around on metal legs. Inside, she meets Calcifer, a fire demon who powers the castle, and Markl, Howl's young apprentice. Calcifer makes her a deal. If she can break his contract with Howl, he will break her curse.

Sophie makes herself the castle's new cleaning lady. The film follows Sophie as she lives with Howl, learns his secrets and tries to find a way to break the curse while the war grows around them.
