Synopsis
Kiki's Delivery Service is a 1989 fantasy film made by Studio Ghibli and directed by Hayao Miyazaki. It is based on the novel by Eiko Kadono. It is set in a peaceful European style world, with old towns, trains and airships. It is a gentle film for all ages.

Kiki is a young witch who has just turned 13. In her family, there is an old custom. When a witch turns 13, she must leave home and live on her own in a new town for one year. This is how she learns to stand on her own feet.

One clear night, Kiki says goodbye to her parents and flies away on her mother's broom. Her talking black cat, Jiji, goes with her. After a long flight, they arrive in Koriko, a big and busy city by the sea.

At first, the city is not very friendly, and Kiki has nowhere to stay. Then she meets Osono, the kind owner of a bakery. Osono gives Kiki a small room above the shop. In return, Kiki helps out in the bakery. Kiki soon has an idea. Since the only magic she is good at is flying, she starts a delivery service on her broom.

Kiki also meets Tombo, a cheerful local boy who is crazy about flying machines. The film follows Kiki as she works, makes friends and learns what it means to grow up.
