Synopsis
No Game No Life Zero is a 2017 fantasy anime film made by the studio Madhouse and directed by Atsuko Ishizuka. It runs for about 105 minutes and is based on the light novels by Yuu Kamiya. It is a prequel to the No Game No Life TV series and is set 6,000 years before it.
In the TV series, the world of Disboard is ruled by games, and violence is not allowed. But it was not always like this. Long ago, the world was torn apart by a terrible war between many races, including gods, elves, dragons and machines. The war has lasted for thousands of years.
Humans are the weakest race. They have no magic, and they can only survive by hiding and running. Riku is a young man who leads a small village of human survivors. He tries to keep his people alive, but he is tired of losing friends and has buried his own feelings.
One day, Riku finds a strange girl in the ruins. She is Schwi, a member of the Ex-Machina, a race of powerful machines. Schwi has been cut off from the others because she wanted to understand the human heart. She asks Riku to teach her.
After playing chess, the two form an unusual bond. Together, they come up with a daring plan to end the war without fighting it head on. The film follows Riku and Schwi as they risk everything to change the fate of their world.
