Synopsis
Saekano: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend is a 2015 romantic comedy anime, and this first season has 12 episodes plus an episode 0. It was made by A-1 Pictures and is based on the light novel series by Fumiaki Maruto. It is about fans who make their own games.
Tomoya Aki is a high school student and a huge otaku who loves anime, manga and dating sim games. One spring day, he sees a girl on a hill under the cherry blossoms. Her hat blows away, and he catches it. The moment feels just like a scene from a game, and it gives him an idea. He decides to make his own dating sim, with that girl as the main heroine.
He soon learns that the girl is Megumi Kato, his classmate. She is so quiet and plain that he had never noticed her before. Megumi is calm and polite, and nothing seems to excite her. Still, she agrees to help.
Tomoya cannot draw or write well, so he needs a team. He goes after two talented girls at his school. Eriri Spencer Sawamura is his childhood friend and a skilled artist who secretly draws fan comics. Utaha Kasumigaoka is an older student who is already a published novelist. Both girls have complicated feelings about Tomoya.
Together, they form a small game circle and start work on their first game. The show is full of jokes about otaku culture and the hard work behind making games.
