Synopsis
Snow White with the Red Hair is a 2015 fantasy romance anime, and this first season has 12 episodes. It was made by the studio Bones and is based on the manga by Sorata Akizuki. It is set in a peaceful fantasy world that looks like old Europe, with castles, forests and small towns. There is no magic in this story.
Shirayuki is a young woman who works as an herbalist in the kingdom of Tanbarun. She is known for her rare hair, which is as red as an apple. Her hair gets the attention of Prince Raji, the spoiled prince of Tanbarun. He orders her to become his concubine.
Shirayuki does not want to be anyone's prize. She cuts off her hair, leaves it for the prince and runs away to the neighboring kingdom of Clarines. In the forest, she meets a young man named Zen and his two companions, Mitsuhide and Kiki. She soon learns that Zen is the second prince of Clarines.
When Raji comes after her with a poisoned apple, Zen steps in to protect her. After this, Shirayuki decides she wants to stay in Clarines. Her new goal is to become a court herbalist at Zen's castle. She wants to stand by his side because of her own skills, not because he is a prince.
The show is a calm, gentle romance about a strong young woman choosing her own path.
