Synopsis
The Millionaire Detective - Balance: UNLIMITED is a 2020 crime action anime with 11 episodes. It was made by CloverWorks and is based on the novel by Yasutaka Tsutsui. It is set in modern Tokyo, and it follows police cases involving bombs, kidnappings and powerful criminals.
Haru Kato is a hot-headed detective in the Tokyo police. He believes in hard work, justice and doing things the honest way. After a case goes wrong, he is moved to the Modern Crime Prevention Division, a small team that most officers see as a dumping ground.
There, Haru gets a new partner, Daisuke Kambe. Daisuke is a young detective from a very rich family. He solves cases by spending as much money as he needs. If he needs a car, he buys it. If he needs a building, he buys that too. He also has a smart AI helper named HEUSC that follows his every order.
Haru and Daisuke could not be more different. Haru thinks money cannot solve everything, and Daisuke thinks it can. They argue all the time, but they still have to work together to solve dangerous cases.
As they work side by side, both men start to reveal parts of their past. Each of them has private reasons for being a detective. The show mixes stylish action, buddy comedy and a slowly growing mystery.
