Toilet-bound Hanako-kun is a 2020 supernatural comedy anime with 12 episodes. It was made by the studio Lerche and is based on the manga by AidaIro. It is set at Kamome Academy, a school in Japan full of ghost stories.
Nene Yashiro is a first year high school student who loves romance and wants a boyfriend more than anything. She has heard of the school's Seven Mysteries. These are famous ghost stories about the school. The seventh mystery is Hanako-san of the toilet, a ghost who lives in the third stall of the old girls' bathroom. People say Hanako will grant any wish, for a price.
Nene goes to the bathroom and calls out to Hanako. She hopes Hanako will help her win the heart of the boy she likes. But Hanako is not a girl. He is a playful ghost boy who likes to tease her. Things soon go wrong, and Nene ends up tied to Hanako by a strange bond. She has to become his assistant.
Hanako's real job is to keep order among the school's spirits and supernatural beings, so that they do not cause harm to students. Nene helps him deal with spirits that cause trouble. They are also joined by Kou Minamoto, a young exorcist who comes from a family of ghost hunters. Kou first wants to get rid of Hanako.
The series follows Nene, Hanako and Kou as they face the other Seven Mysteries, and as Nene learns more about Hanako's past.
