Synopsis
Beyond the Boundary is a 2013 fantasy action anime with 12 episodes. It was made by Kyoto Animation and is based on the light novel by Nagomu Torii. It is set in a small city in modern Japan, where hidden supernatural beings called youmu live alongside humans.
Youmu are creatures born from human emotions. Most people cannot see them. Some of them are harmless, but others are dangerous. People called Spirit World Warriors hunt youmu and sell the stones they leave behind.
Akihito Kanbara is a second year high school student. He has a big secret. He is half human and half youmu, and he cannot die. Any wound he gets heals very quickly. He also has a strong love of girls who wear glasses.
One day, Akihito sees a girl standing on the edge of the school roof. He runs to stop her from falling. The girl is Mirai Kuriyama, a shy new first year student who wears glasses. Instead of thanking him, she stabs him with a sword made from her own blood.
Mirai is a Spirit World Warrior. Her family was known for their power to control blood, and other warriors fear it. She has no money and is struggling to make a living as a youmu hunter. She keeps trying to attack Akihito for practice.
The series follows Akihito and Mirai as they become unlikely friends, hunt youmu together and face a huge threat that is about to reach their city.
