Synopsis
DARLING in the FRANXX is a 2018 science fiction mecha anime with 24 episodes. It is an original story made by Studio Trigger and CloverWorks. The story is set in the far future, when humans live in huge moving cities called Plantations on a ruined Earth.
Humanity is at war with giant monsters called klaxosaurs. To fight them, children are trained as pilots for large robots called Franxx. These children are called Parasites. They live in special homes away from the adults and know very little about the world outside. Each Franxx needs a boy and a girl to pilot it together as a pair.
Hiro, also known as Code 016, was once a top student. Now he cannot pilot a Franxx because he failed to connect with his partner. He feels useless and alone, while his friends in Squad 13 prepare for real battles.
One day, Hiro meets a mysterious girl with red horns on her head. Her name is Zero Two. She is a famous pilot, but people fear her. It is said that her partners do not survive for long. Zero Two calls Hiro her "darling".
When a klaxosaur attacks the Plantation, Hiro gets the chance to pilot a Franxx with Zero Two. The series follows Hiro, Zero Two and the other children of Squad 13 as they fight the klaxosaurs and try to understand who they really are.
