Synopsis
Tengoku Daimakyo, also known as Heavenly Delusion, is a 2023 science fiction mystery anime with 13 episodes. It was made by Production I.G and is based on the manga by Masakazu Ishiguro. It is set in Japan in the near future, after a disaster has destroyed most of society. The show has violence and some mature scenes.
The story follows two groups at the same time.
The first group is a pair of travelers. Maru is a teenage boy who has a strange power to destroy monsters. Kiruko is a tough and skilled young woman who works as his bodyguard. The two of them travel across the ruins of Japan. Cities are empty, and dangerous monsters called man-eaters roam the land. Maru is looking for a place called Heaven, because someone told him that he might find a person there who looks just like him.
The second group lives in a beautiful and safe facility surrounded by high walls. Many children live there, and they are well cared for by adults. They take tests and play games, and they have never seen the outside world. The children are told the world outside is a dangerous hell. One of them, a girl named Tokio, receives a strange message asking if she wants to go outside.
The show switches back and forth between these two stories. The series follows Maru and Kiruko on their dangerous trip, and the children inside the walls, as the links between them slowly come to light.
