Synopsis
Summer Time Rendering is a 2022 mystery thriller anime with 25 episodes. It was made by the studio OLM and is based on the manga by Yasuki Tanaka. It is set on Hitogashima, a small island off the coast of Wakayama in Japan, during one summer.
Shinpei Ajiro is 17 years old. He grew up on the island, but he moved to Tokyo two years ago. Now he comes back home for a sad reason. Ushio Kofune, his childhood friend who was like family to him, has died. People say she drowned while saving a young girl at the beach.
At the funeral, Shinpei learns something strange. Ushio's younger sister, Mio, tells him there were marks on Ushio's neck, as if someone had hurt her. Mio also says that shortly before Ushio died, she saw a copy of her sister. On the island, there is an old legend about Shadows. They are beings that look exactly like real people. It is said that if you see your own Shadow, you will soon die.
Soon, dangerous events begin to happen, and Shinpei finds himself caught in them. Then something even stranger happens. After a terrible moment, he wakes up back on the day he first arrived on the island. He is stuck in a time loop.
Shinpei decides to use this chance to find the truth. The series follows Shinpei as he lives the same days again and again, trying to uncover the island's secrets and protect the people he loves.
