Synopsis
Steins;Gate is a 2011 science fiction thriller anime with 24 episodes. It was made by the studio White Fox and is based on the visual novel by 5pb. and Nitroplus. The story takes place in Akihabara, the electronics district of Tokyo, in the summer of 2010.

Rintaro Okabe is a college student who calls himself a mad scientist. He likes to use the name Hououin Kyouma and acts as if an evil group is after him. He runs a small lab above a TV shop with two friends. Mayuri Shiina is his sweet and cheerful childhood friend. Itaru Hashida, called Daru, is a skilled hacker. Together they build strange inventions that mostly do not work.

One day, Okabe goes to a talk about time travel. There he meets Kurisu Makise, a young genius scientist. Soon after, he sees something shocking and sends a text message to Daru about it. After that, the world around him seems to change, and only Okabe notices.

Back at the lab, the friends find that one of their odd gadgets, a phone connected to a microwave, can send text messages into the past. Kurisu joins the lab to study it. The group also learns that SERN, a huge research group, has been working on time travel in secret.

The series follows Okabe and his friends as they test their new discovery and begin to see what changing the past can do.
