Synopsis
The Promised Neverland is a 2019 dark fantasy thriller anime, and this first season has 12 episodes. It was made by the studio CloverWorks and is based on the manga by Kaiu Shirai and Posuka Demizu. The story takes place in an orphanage called Grace Field House.
Grace Field House looks like a perfect home. Around 38 children live there with a kind woman they call Mom. They eat good food, play in the big forest outside and take tests every day. The children all love Mom, and they wait to be adopted by a new family one day. There is only one rule. They must never go past the gate or the fence at the edge of the forest.
Emma is a cheerful 11 year old girl who cares for all the younger kids. Norman is calm and very smart, and Ray is a quiet boy who reads all the time. The three of them get the top scores on the tests.
One night, a young girl named Conny leaves the house to be adopted. Emma and Norman go to the gate to return a toy she forgot. What they find there shows them that their happy home is not what it seems.
Now Emma and Norman know they must escape, and they want to take every child with them. But they must plan in secret, because Mom is always watching. The season follows the children as they try to outsmart the adults in charge.
