Synopsis
Durarara!! is a 2010 urban fantasy mystery anime with 24 episodes. It was made by the studio Brain's Base and is based on the light novels by Ryohgo Narita. It is set in Ikebukuro, a busy area of Tokyo.
Mikado Ryugamine is a quiet boy from the countryside. He has always wanted to live a more exciting life. His childhood friend, Masaomi Kida, invites him to move to Ikebukuro and go to high school with him at Raira Academy. Mikado agrees.
Masaomi shows Mikado around the city and warns him about the people he should stay away from. There is Shizuo Heiwajima, a man with a short temper and incredible strength, who throws vending machines when he gets angry. There is Izaya Orihara, a clever information broker who likes to play with people's lives. There are also street gangs, including a mysterious online group called the Dollars.
The city's most famous urban legend is the Black Rider, a figure on a black motorcycle with no headlight. People say the rider has no head. The story soon shows that the legend is real. The rider is Celty Sturluson, a creature from Irish folklore called a dullahan. She works as a courier and is searching the city for her lost head.
Many different characters and events in Ikebukuro start to connect with each other. The series follows Mikado, Celty and the others as their stories come together in strange and surprising ways.
