Synopsis
GTO: Great Teacher Onizuka is a 1999 comedy drama anime with 43 episodes. It was made by Studio Pierrot and is based on the manga by Toru Fujisawa. It is set in modern Tokyo, mostly at a private school. The show has some violence and adult jokes, so it is best for older teens and adults.
Eikichi Onizuka is a 22-year-old former biker gang leader. He is loud and rude, and he is not very smart. But he has a big heart. He decides he wants to become a teacher. At first, his reasons are not very noble. But soon, he decides his real goal is to be the greatest teacher ever.
Onizuka somehow gets a job at Holy Forest Academy, a strict private school. The school's director sees something special in him and hires him, even though most of the staff are against it. The vice principal, Uchiyamada, hates him from the very first day.
Onizuka is given Class 3-4, the worst class in the school. The students in this class have already driven several teachers away. They set traps, spread lies and try to break him. Onizuka does not act like a normal teacher. Instead of punishing them, he uses wild and often crazy ways to reach each student and help them with their real problems.
The show mixes big laughs with serious stories about bullying, loneliness and family trouble. It follows Onizuka as he slowly wins his students' trust.
