Synopsis
Neon Genesis Evangelion: The End of Evangelion is a 1997 science fiction anime film made by Gainax and Production I.G. It was directed by Hideaki Anno and Kazuya Tsurumaki and runs for about 87 minutes. It is an alternate version of the final two episodes of the Neon Genesis Evangelion TV series. It is made for adult viewers and has strong violence and disturbing scenes.

The film is set in the year 2015 in Tokyo-3, a city built to defend humanity from giant beings called Angels. A secret group called NERV fights the Angels with huge machines called Evangelions, or EVAs. Only certain teenagers can pilot them.

Shinji Ikari is a 14 year old boy who pilots EVA Unit-01. At the start of the film, he is deeply hurt and lost after the recent events of the series. He feels that nobody needs him. Asuka Langley Soryu, another pilot, is in a hospital and cannot fight.

The last Angel has been defeated. But the fight is not over. SEELE, a powerful and secret group that controls NERV from the shadows, has its own plan for the future of humanity, called the Human Instrumentality Project. NERV's commander, Gendo Ikari, Shinji's father, has a different plan of his own.

SEELE decides to take control by force and sends an army to attack NERV. The film follows Shinji, Asuka and the people of NERV as this final conflict decides the fate of humanity. It is best watched after the TV series.
