Synopsis
Paprika is a 2006 science fiction film directed by Satoshi Kon. It was made by Madhouse and is based on the novel by Yasutaka Tsutsui. It is set in Japan in the near future. The film is famous for its colorful, dream-like images, and it is best for older teens and adults.

Scientists have invented a device called the DC Mini. It lets a therapist enter a patient's dreams and see them from the inside. This could change the way mental problems are treated, but the device has not yet been approved for use.

Atsuko Chiba is a serious and calm researcher who works on the project. In secret, she uses the DC Mini to help patients inside their dreams. In the dream world, she becomes Paprika, a cheerful and playful young woman. One of her patients is Detective Konakawa, a police officer who has a repeating nightmare that he cannot understand.

Then three DC Mini devices are stolen. Someone starts using them to break into people's minds, even while they are awake. Researchers begin to act strangely and say crazy things. Soon, dreams begin to spill out into the real world.

Atsuko works with Kosaku Tokita, the genius who invented the device, and Torataro Shima, the project's chief, to find the thief. The film is a wild and strange mystery about dreams, the mind and the line between fantasy and reality.
