Synopsis
Saga of Tanya the Evil is a 2017 military fantasy anime with 12 episodes. It was made by the studio NUT and is based on the light novels by Carlo Zen. It is set in an alternate version of Europe at the time of the First World War, but in this world, magic is used as a weapon.
The story starts in modern Tokyo. A cold and practical office worker fires a man from his job. The angry man pushes him in front of a train. As he dies, time freezes, and a being who claims to be God appears. The office worker does not believe in God, and he tells the being so.
The being, which he calls Being X, is angry. It sends him to be reborn in another world as a baby girl. It believes that a hard life at war will make him have faith.
He is reborn as Tanya Degurechaff, an orphan in the Empire, a country much like Germany. Tanya still remembers her past life. She also has very strong magic. She joins the army as a child, hoping to get a safe job far from the front lines.
But her strong skill and cold logic get her sent into the most dangerous battles. Tanya becomes a feared mage officer, known to her enemies as the Devil of the Rhine. The series follows Tanya as she climbs the ranks and fights in a growing war, all while she refuses to pray to Being X.
