Synopsis
Overlord is a 2015 dark fantasy anime, and this first season has 13 episodes. It was made by the studio Madhouse and is based on the light novels by Kugane Maruyama. Most of the story takes place in an unknown fantasy world.
In the year 2138, Yggdrasil is a popular online role playing game that uses virtual reality. The game is about to shut down for good. Momonga is the leader of a guild called Ainz Ooal Gown. His character is a powerful skeleton wizard. The guild's home is the Great Tomb of Nazarick, a huge dungeon full of monsters and characters that the members created.
Most of his friends have left the game. Momonga stays logged in until the very last second to say goodbye. But when the servers close, nothing happens. He is still in the game world, and he cannot log out.
Momonga soon finds that things have changed. The characters in Nazarick, who used to follow simple commands, are now alive. They think for themselves, and they see him as their supreme ruler. Outside the tomb, the land is not the world of Yggdrasil at all. It is a new world with its own countries, people and magic.
Momonga decides to take the name of his guild, Ainz Ooal Gown. He wants to learn about this world and find out if any other players are here too. The series follows Ainz and his loyal servants as they explore and grow their power in the new world.
