Synopsis
Solo Leveling is a 2024 action fantasy anime, and this first season has 12 episodes. It was made by A-1 Pictures and is based on the Korean web novel by Chugong and its web comic version. It is set in modern day Seoul, South Korea.
About ten years ago, portals called Gates began to open all over the world. Each Gate leads to a dungeon full of monsters. If nobody clears a dungeon in time, the monsters come out into the world. At the same time, some people woke up with special powers. They are called Hunters, and their job is to clear the dungeons. Hunters are ranked from E, the weakest, to S, the strongest.
Sung Jinwoo is an E-rank Hunter. People call him the weakest Hunter of all. He is often hurt on missions, but he keeps working because he needs money to pay for his mother's hospital care and to look after his younger sister.
One day, Jinwoo joins a group raid on what seems like an easy dungeon. Inside, they find a hidden second dungeon, and it is much more dangerous than anyone expected.
After this raid, something strange happens to Jinwoo. He starts to see a game-like screen that only he can see. It gives him daily quests and lets him level up, like a character in a video game. The season follows Jinwoo as he trains in secret and slowly grows stronger.
