Synopsis
Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online is a 2018 action anime with 12 episodes. It was made by Studio 3Hz and is based on the light novel series by Keiichi Sigsawa. It is a spin-off of Sword Art Online, but it has its own story and characters. Most of it takes place inside Gun Gale Online, a virtual reality shooting game set in a ruined future world.
Karen Kohiruimaki is a shy university student in Tokyo. She is very tall, and she feels uncomfortable about her height. She wishes she could be small and cute. In most virtual reality games, her avatar is also tall, and she hates it.
Then she tries Gun Gale Online. This time, the game gives her a tiny, cute avatar. Karen is very happy. She names her character LLENN, dresses her all in pink and picks a pink gun that she calls P-chan. With her small size and speed, LLENN becomes a feared player who hunts other players.
In the game, LLENN meets Pitohui, a strange and skilled player who becomes her friend. Pitohui invites LLENN to join Squad Jam, a big team battle tournament where squads fight until only one is left. LLENN teams up with a quiet and powerful player named M.
In real life, Karen is a big fan of a singer named Elsa Kanzaki. The show mixes fast gun battles and game tactics with Karen's quest to feel good about herself.
