The Ancient Magus' Bride

The Ancient Magus' Bride is a 2017 fantasy drama anime, and this first season has 24 episodes. It was made by Wit Studio and is based on the manga by Kore Yamazaki. Most of the story takes place in the English countryside, where magic and fairies are real but hidden from most people.

Chise Hatori is a 15 year old girl from Japan. She has had a very hard life. Her family is gone, and nobody has ever wanted her. Since she was a child, she has been able to see strange creatures that others cannot see. She has lost all hope for her future.

One day, a mysterious man offers Chise a chance to leave her old life. She agrees and is sold at a secret auction in London. The buyer is Elias Ainsworth, a very tall magus, or sorcerer, who has the skull of an animal for a head. He is not human, and he does not always understand human feelings.

Elias takes Chise to his home in the countryside. He tells her that she is a Sleigh Beggy, a rare person who can draw in and create huge amounts of magic. He says he will make her his apprentice. He also tells her that one day, she will be his bride.

In her new home, Chise meets fairies, dragons and other magical beings. The series follows Chise as she learns magic, finds a place where she belongs and slowly gets to know the strange being who bought her.
