Synopsis
Frieren: Beyond Journey's End is a 2023 fantasy drama anime, and this first season has 28 episodes. It was made by the studio Madhouse and is based on the manga by Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe. It is set in a medieval fantasy world of magic, monsters and small towns.
The story begins where most fantasy stories end. A group of four heroes has just defeated the Demon King after a ten year quest. The group is Himmel the hero, Heiter the priest, Eisen the dwarf warrior and Frieren, an elf mage. Elves can live for more than a thousand years. For Frieren, ten years is a very short time.
After the victory, the heroes go their separate ways. Frieren spends her time traveling alone and collecting spells, some of them useful and many of them silly. Fifty years later, she comes back to meet her old friends. They have grown old, but she has not changed at all. When one of them passes away, Frieren is surprised by how sad she feels. She realizes that she never took the time to really know him.
Frieren decides to travel again and learn more about people. Heiter asks her to take care of Fern, a young orphan girl he raised, and to teach her magic. Fern is serious and hard working, and she often has to look after Frieren instead.
The series follows Frieren and Fern as they travel from place to place, help people and visit memories of the old group.
