Synopsis
Tokyo Ghoul is a 2014 dark fantasy horror anime, and this first season has 12 episodes. It was made by Studio Pierrot and is based on the manga by Sui Ishida. The story is set in modern Tokyo, where monsters called ghouls live in secret among humans.
Ghouls look like normal people, but they can only survive by eating human flesh. Regular food makes them sick. Most humans fear them, and a government group called the CCG hunts them down.
Ken Kaneki is a quiet college student who loves to read. He spends time at a coffee shop with his best friend Hide. One day, Kaneki goes on a date with Rize, a young woman who shares his taste in books. The date goes very wrong, and a terrible accident leaves Kaneki close to death. To save him, doctors give him some of Rize's organs.
When Kaneki wakes up, he is no longer fully human. Food tastes awful to him, and he starts to feel hungry for human flesh. He is now half ghoul, and he does not know how to live like this.
Kaneki soon finds Anteiku, a quiet cafe run by ghouls. The staff, including a hot tempered girl named Touka, may be able to help him. The season follows Kaneki as he tries to hold on to his human side while living between two worlds.
