Synopsis
Tokyo Ghoul √A is the 2015 second season of the dark fantasy horror anime. It has 12 episodes and was made by Studio Pierrot. It is based on the manga by Sui Ishida, but it tells its own version of the story that is different from the manga. It picks up straight after the end of the first season.
In modern Tokyo, ghouls look like humans but must eat human flesh to survive. They hide among normal people, while a government group called the CCG hunts them down.
Ken Kaneki was once a normal college student. After an accident, he became half ghoul. For a while, he lived and worked at Anteiku, a cafe where ghouls help each other live in peace. Now Kaneki has changed. His hair has turned white, and he has made a surprising choice. He leaves Anteiku and joins Aogiri Tree, a violent group of ghouls. He says he wants to get stronger so he can protect the people he cares about.
His friends at Anteiku, including Touka, do not understand why he left. Touka is hurt and angry, but she also worries about him.
On the human side, CCG investigators Koutarou Amon and Akira Mado work hard to track down Aogiri Tree. A strange new investigator named Juuzou Suzuya also joins the fight. The season follows Kaneki as he walks a dangerous path between ghouls and humans, while both sides move closer to a large conflict.
