Synopsis
Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign is a 2015 dark fantasy action anime, and this first part has 12 episodes. It was made by Wit Studio and is based on the manga by Takaya Kagami, Yamato Yamamoto and Daisuke Furuya. It is set in Japan after the end of the world as we know it.
One day, a deadly virus kills almost every human over the age of 13. At the same time, vampires come out from underground and take control. They gather the surviving children and bring them to an underground city. There, the children are kept like farm animals, and the vampires drink their blood.
Yuichiro Hyakuya, called Yu, is a young orphan who lives in this city with a group of other orphans. His best friend, Mikaela Hyakuya, called Mika, is smart and calm, and he looks after the younger children. Together they plan to escape with their family of orphans. But the escape goes terribly wrong, and only Yu makes it out.
Four years later, Yu lives in what is left of human society above ground. He wants to join the Moon Demon Company, a special army unit that fights vampires. A soldier named Guren Ichinose takes an interest in him. To join, Yu must learn to work with others and to use a Cursed Gear, a weapon that holds a demon inside it.
The season follows Yu, his teammate Shinoa and his new friends as they train to fight the vampires who took everything from them.
