Synopsis
Parasyte -the maxim- is a 2014 science fiction horror anime with 24 episodes. It was made by the studio Madhouse and is based on the manga by Hitoshi Iwaaki. It is set in a modern Japanese city.
One night, small worm-like creatures fall from the sky. Nobody knows where they come from. Each one looks for a human host. It crawls into the body through the ear or nose and takes over the brain. After that, the creature controls the body. It can change the shape of the head into blades and mouths, and it needs to eat humans to live.
Shinichi Izumi is a quiet high school student who lives with his parents. One of the creatures tries to get into his head while he is asleep. It fails to reach his brain and ends up taking over his right hand instead.
Now Shinichi's right hand has a mind of its own. It can talk, think, change shape and learn very fast. Shinichi names it Migi, which means "right". Migi does not care about humans. It only cares about staying alive. Since Migi needs Shinichi's body to survive, the two of them must work together.
Soon, strange murders start to happen in the city. Other parasites are out there, and some of them can sense Migi. Shinichi also has to keep the secret from his family and from his friend Satomi. The series follows Shinichi as he fights other parasites and starts to change as a person.
