Synopsis
Wolf Children is a 2012 fantasy drama film directed by Mamoru Hosoda. It was the first film made by Studio Chizu, and it is an original story. It is set in modern Japan, first in Tokyo and then in the quiet countryside. The film covers about 13 years of one family's life.
Hana is a college student in Tokyo. She notices a quiet young man who sits in on her class, and the two fall in love. One night, he tells her his secret. He is part wolf, and he can change into a wolf whenever he wants. Hana accepts him as he is.
They build a life together and have two children. Yuki, the older girl, is born on a snowy day. Ame, the younger boy, is born on a rainy day. Both children can turn into wolf pups, often when they get excited or upset.
Before long, Hana has to raise the children on her own. Life in the city is very hard. She must keep the children's secret from neighbors, doctors and social workers. So she moves the family to an old farmhouse in the mountains, far from other people.
