Synopsis
Dororo is a 2019 dark fantasy action anime with 24 episodes. It was made by MAPPA and Tezuka Productions and is based on the manga by Osamu Tezuka. It is set in Japan during the Sengoku period, a time of war and hunger in the 1400s and 1500s.
Daigo Kagemitsu is a lord whose lands are poor and suffering. He wants power and wealth for his people. To get it, he makes a deal with twelve demons. In return, he offers them his newborn son. The demons take almost every part of the baby's body. The child is born without skin, eyes, ears, arms or legs. Kagemitsu orders the baby to be thrown away in a river.
By a miracle, the baby survives. A kind doctor named Jukai finds him and raises him. He makes the boy wooden arms and legs, and he names him Hyakkimaru.
Years later, Hyakkimaru is a young man. He cannot see, hear or speak, but he can sense the souls of living things. He also has blades hidden inside his fake arms. When he kills one of the demons, he gets back one part of his body.
On his travels, Hyakkimaru meets Dororo, a young orphan thief who is loud and clever. Dororo decides to follow him and help him talk to other people. The series follows Hyakkimaru and Dororo as they hunt demons across a land torn by war, and as Hyakkimaru slowly becomes more human.
