Synopsis
Vinland Saga is a 2019 historical action drama anime, and this first season has 24 episodes. It was made by Wit Studio and is based on the manga by Makoto Yukimura. The story is set in Northern Europe in the early 11th century, during the age of the Vikings.
The first episode opens with a group of Viking fighters led by a clever man named Askeladd. They sell their swords to whoever pays best. With them is a young man named Thorfinn, who fights with two short knives and seems full of anger.
The story then goes back several years to a small village in Iceland. There, Thorfinn is a young boy who loves stories of war and dreams of being a great warrior. His father, Thors, is a calm and gentle man. Thors was once a famous fighter, but he left that life behind. He does not like to talk about his past, and he teaches his son that a true warrior does not need a sword.
One day, a ship arrives in the village. Floki, a leader of the Jomsvikings, a group of elite warriors, has come to call Thors back to war. Thors must decide what to do, and Thorfinn sees a chance to leave home for the adventure he always wanted.
The season follows Thorfinn as his life changes in ways he does not expect.
