Made in Abyss: Dawn of the Deep Soul

Made in Abyss: Dawn of the Deep Soul is a 2020 dark fantasy adventure film. It was made by Kinema Citrus and is based on the manga by Akihito Tsukushi. It continues the story right after the first season. It has very disturbing scenes of violence and body horror, so it is only for adult viewers.

The story is set around the Abyss, a giant hole in the earth full of strange creatures and ancient relics. The deeper you go, the more dangerous it gets. Coming back up causes a curse that can harm or even kill a person.

Riko is a young girl who dreams of reaching the bottom of the Abyss, where she believes her mother is waiting. She travels with Reg, a robot boy with no memory, and Nanachi, a kind and furry creature who was once human.

In this film, the three reach the Fifth Layer, known as the Sea of Corpses. There, they find Idofront, a research base run by Bondrewd, a famous and powerful explorer. Nanachi has a painful history with Bondrewd and does not trust him at all. At the base, Riko meets Prushka, a cheerful girl who lives there and quickly becomes her friend.

Riko, Reg and Nanachi must decide how to get past Idofront and keep going down. The film is a tense and sad story about curiosity, cruelty and friendship.
